West 102nd Street Transverse

Sometimes, to keep up with your faster teammates in workouts, it is necessary to use non-traditional tactics.  The "Wait for me while I tie my loose shoelace" trick will not work at all, since your teammates will only accelerate.  So it becomes essential to take every short cut that you can.  This picture shows the transverse at 102nd Street.  During races, runners are supposed to stay on the asphalt-surfaced roadway.  Here you can jump on the dirt path on the right that cuts a tangent and it can save you approximately three seconds, at the cost of only some verbal abuse from your teammates.
