Congratulations to Brian Schaffer, who will someday get a trophy that is slightly less hideous than the real World Cup trophy. Congratulations as well to Ray Prybylski, who wins recognition (but no actual prize) for the best entry name: "WoliegtBerlinho." Our main basis for this is that it's only name we had to look up to understand. A quick Google search revealed that the title works better with spaces — "Wo liegt Berlin ho" — and probably comes from Alfred Kerr's book "Wo liegt Berlin? Briefe aus der Reichshauptstadt." ("Where Is Berlin? Letters from the Capital.") We'd never heard of Kerr until we looked this up, but he appears to have had a rather interesting life.
Thanks to everyone who participated. We'll have other pools here if anyone suggests a good one. Otherwise we're done with fake gambling until March Madness.

Hood to Coast
July 7, 2006
I am the captain of a Hood to Coast Relay team that will be competing for our 6th straight year on August 25-26, 2006.
Our team is looking for a male runner, 30 yrs.+ of age who can run about 34 mins or faster for 10k to join our team. Last year our team finished 20th overall (out of more than 1000 teams) and won the Mixed (6 males/6 females)Submaster Division. Most of the teams ahead of us were all male. Our team is primarily made up of south Floridians. We have a fun and competitive team. If you are interested or know someone interested, please have them email me at dougruns26@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Doug Horn
Run to Home Plate
July 7, 2006
The next points race — the Run to Home Plate 5K — is still three weeks away, but with the race capped at 2,500 ruuners, the field is filling up fast. Don't miss your chance to help out your team — and to meet Mr. Met, the greatest mascot not yet inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame.
Mary Rosado
July 7, 2006
Dear Central Park Track Club Members:
As a friend of Mary Rosado, you know that Mary has been a long-time member of the NIKE Central Park Track Club. She was the Masters representative for many years and still continues to compete for the team.
Mary is currently running another type of race, a political race for Civil Court Judge in the 7th Municipal Court District, which includes the areas north of West 110 Street to the northern tip of Manhattan, as well as the areas around Baker Field and the Armory, where many of you train with Mary. Mary is fighting an uphill battle to be on the ballot in the September primary. She can do this through the petition process which will require volunteers to hit the streets to gather signatures and to pass out campaign literature over the next few weeks. We need volunteers to make telephone calls and to stuff envelopes. If you can help, please contact me at rosadocivcrt@aol.com.
We would like to collect the names and addresses of potential donors from Mary's supporters to invite to a fundraiser over the summer. Your mailing list can be sent as an attachment to the above e-mail address. If anyone has a Manhattan location to offer for this fundraiser, please step forward!
Donations to Mary's campaign can be made to:

Many thanks for your support of Mary's race for Civil Court Judge!
Sincerely,
Kathleen Munguia

Ironman Training Program
July 7, 2006
Greetings everyone,
We hope you are in the midst of your racing season, staying uninjured
and motivated. This e-mail is intended to those of you who are
interested in straying away from your primary sport to challenge
yourself next year to a different racing experience – AN IRONMAN.
We are inviting a limited number of athletes to join our TriLife
IronTeam 2007. The TriLife training program had been tested and
proven successful many times over the years. It is specifically
designed to prepare athletes to complete their first or fastest
ironman distance triathlon. Our team-focused training program will
prepare you for Ironman USA Lake Placid. TriLife IronTeam is limited
to local NYC athletes in order to provide on-field coaching and
regular observations by the coaching staff.
The TriLife IronTeam 2007 will begin training in the fall of 2006.
Your periodized program will progress from a Pre-Base and Base
Training Phases in the fall and winter. Our belief in your holistic
development as an endurance athlete has these initial phases focus on
three basic and essential elements of IM success: general
cardiovascular and muscular conditioning, a strong core and efficiency
in motion. In the spring, you will develop your swimming, cycling and
running endurance in the progressively longer training sessions of the
Build Phase. All that will be left is your Peak and Taper Phases, and
you will be ready for your Ironman finish line in July 2007.
The TriLife program requires an initial interviewing process and
athlete assessment period. If qualified, you will join your
IronTeam2007 teammates and train together both in weekly coached
sessions and periodic weekend training camps. In addition to regular
coaching feedback, you will receive monthly and weekly training plans,
articles and updates by e-mail. We anticipate that most participants
will take full advantage of team/group training dynamics, but respect
that some will choose training solo.
Don't delay. Spaces in Ironman USA Lake Placid and the TriLife
IronTeam 2007 are limited. Online registration for IM Lake Placid
2007 begins July 24th, and is expected to close within 24 hours.
If you are interested, please contact TriLife Head Coaches, Ross
Galitsky or Scott Willett. We will send you a more detailed
description of the TriLife training program, our coaching philosophy,
how to register for IMLP and our training program, and the fee
structure.
We hope you will accept the Ironman challenge and allow us to help you
make the training fun and fulfilling by joining the TriLife IronTeam
2007.
