Q1. In 2003, the Boston Marathon
was run in seventy plus degree heat with no mercy from the sun.
Which Boston Marathon finisher is in this picture? (Rated
as in the easiest category with no points awarded)
Q2. Who is the owner of these
feet/shoes/socks? (Rated beyond all category of difficulty,
but not impossible)
Q3. Stuart Calderwood
is holding a bottle of wine that he received as a gift. Name
(1) the vintage (2) the vineyard (3) the donor (4) the reason.
(The first two are rated as beyond any category of difficulty, (3)
is moderately difficult and (4) is rated as easy).
ANSWERS
Q1. The name on the arm is 'Jesse'
and the full name of the runner is Jesse Lansner. The
volunteers used waterproof (and apparently ultra-violet-sun-ray-proof)
magic markers to write his name on his arm. Three hours later,
the rest of his arm was bright red, but the skin under the letters
was unscathed. Jesse said, "The same thing happened in
my first triathlon; I had the number 22 on my arm for the next year
or so ..."
Q2. Adam Manewell.
This is admittedly difficult, but not impossible. If you remember
this photo from
the 2003 Thomas G. Labrecque Classic, you would recognize those
feet/shoes/socks immediately. This is not as absurd as it
seems, since there was a discussion about whether he wore his chip
that day because he was scored initially.
Q3. Vintage: 2000.
Vineyard: Le Château de Haute-Font. This was a belated
gift from Carlos Stafford on the occasion of the birth of
Kieran McShane Calderwood. You are in fact given
no chance on the vintage/vineyard question because the photo is
of insufficient resolution. Here is the original uncondensed
version for you edification.
