Joe
Kleinerman Scholarship Fund: On behalf of our
members the club has made a $500 donation to the Joe Kleinerman
Scholarship Fund. Each year this fund will provide a scholarship
to a runner who is graduating from a New York City public high
school and continuing on to college, with selection based on
athletic and academic achievement. We would also like
to encourage our members to make their own individual contributions
to:
Joe Kleinerman
Scholarship Fund
NYRR
9 East 89th Street,
New York, NY 10128
Our club
is very appreciative of the pioneering work that Joe made in
establishing competitive running in New York City for both men
and women.
Field
Events Craig Plummer: "We'll
be putting together maybe a team, or just people who are interested
in the field events, who want to learn the hurdles, shot put,
javelin, pole vault, long jump, etc, and who want to learn these
events safely. If interested (and this is an open invitation),
contact Craig Plummer at Bodycraig@msn.com.
The focus will be the summer field events: shot put, discus,
long jump, javelin, high jump, pole vault, hurdles with emphasis
on prehabilitation and drills. Safety will be the cornerstone
of the workout. These workouts will be conducted during
the sprint workouts."

Running Log Software: Teammate Larry
King has created an online running log to track running
information for runners. Each runner would create his/her
user ID and start logging their runs. The system will
subtotal daily runs by week along with just showing weekly totals.
Averages are also computed. Features will be added as
the site evolves. Hopefully people on the club can find
this log useful.

Shoe4Africa: From Toby Tanser: "Ever since 1995, I have been
sending used running shoes to Africa not decrepit worn-out
models but shoes with at least 150 miles worth of wear left.
For me to collect such items is easy as I am good at asking
friends and pestering people. However I am looking now
for a sponsor for package/postage costs as the old sponsor (moi)
is getting steadily poorer. I am not looking for personal
contributions, but someone out there wants their name/company
to head a project like this. I will willingly do all the
work - find the shoes, pack the shoes, send the shoes, provide
accurate receipts ... It is a very worthwhile project, and one
that takes just a little effort - my first athlete that I helped
(when he was a runner with a pair of cutoff jeans) won the Falmouth
Road Race. After spending some time in Tanzania, I saw
an even greater call for running shoes than in Kenya, so I'd
like to do something about it, and would love 'you' to be a
part of this venture!"
