Central Park reservoir, December 14, 2003
Pre-Race
|
Catherine Stone-Borkowski
and Stacy Creamer, members of our masters women's team,
turned out on this snowy morning to claim their championship
in the final race of the year. While the team was comfortably
ahead in points, they still needed to show today. This race
was turned into a fun run because the snow made for some hazardous
conditions on parts of the course. Catherine: "Good! Now that
there is photographic evidence that I was here, I can rush home
to New Jersey!" |
|
Long-distance travelers came
back for this race from all over the world. The photographer
came in from Hong Kong where they just had the coldest day of
the year (59 degrees); Paul Stuart-Smith came in from
England and so did Graeme Reid. |
|
Stuart Calderwood keeps
his eyes protected. |
|
As Canadians, Lauren Eckhart
and David Smith are distinctly unimpressed with this
small amount of snowfall causing a points race to be turned
into a fun run. |
|
If the two Canadians are unimpressed,
what does that one Icelander, Toby Tanser, think?
|
|
Running around the reservoir
were Carol Tyler, Frank Schneiger and Norman
Goluskin. |
|
Three runners with only three
lucky duckies for company. |
|
Before Dan and Catherine
Borkowski left, they made sure that they got a photo with
their favorite NYRR official.
|
|
Tony Ruiz and Kevin
Arlyck. Tony: "Hi, you have no idea how much I missed you.
[polite pause] By the way, can you be at the Armory on Tuesday
to be a timer?" Yes, it was nice to feel wanted. Seriously,
though, Tony said that things have gone well so far as he has
four volunteer timers and he hopes that they will keep up the
good work. |
