1997 Holiday 4 Miler

Photo
1: Although Jeff Kisseloff is standing under
the FINISH banner, this race has not yet started. But Jeff is
probably counting on a quick finish.

2: This is about 200m after the start of the race. Jud
Santos is probably surprised to see two teammates standing
in the middle of road, risking being run over by the stampeding
herd, for the privilege of snapping a photo of him.

3: Going up Cat Hill, Jud Santos makes his move
to drop a fellow competitor. Being known as the polkadotjersey
man obviously helps his self-confidence in hill-climbing. We
were most impressed by the fact that he was running with his
eyes shut. Ultimately, this would turn out to be a Personal
Record for our hero, and a finish in the Overall Top 10.

4: Michael Garland is coming up Cat Hill. If
you look hard, you will see the black cat sculpture on the hillside
behind him, but that was probably the last thing on Mike's mind
at the time.

5: Jeff Kisseloff comes up Cat Hill, half-listening
to the verbiage from his cheering teammates. Most appropriately,
another spectator is ringing a bell (death knell?) for the runners.

6: Rick Shaver is trying to race himself back
into shape after a long forced break. At this point of the race,
he is receiving contradictory evaluations from two non-racing
teammates. On one hand, Sarah Gross is yelling, "You're
looking great!" On the other hand, Roland Soong
is saying, "You're dying!" Whom should he believe?
Or was he beyond caring at this point? You can make your own
determination from the photo. If that is looking great, then
I would rather be dead!
