1998 Run for Goodwill

The 1998 Goodwill Games were held in the New York City area.  This time, there was a 5 Mile road race, with a course that started at the United Nations building, flowed down the FDR Drive and ended in Battery Park.  These pictures were taken on the FDR Drive near East 12th Street.

  • Photo 1: This race had fourteen invited elite runners.  This is the lead pack, which consisted of the usual Kenyan contingent going out at suicidal pace.
  • Photo 2: About 15 seconds behind them was the chase pack, which included former NYC Marathon winner Douglas Wakihuri.
  • Photo 3: The leading female runner was Anne Marie Lauck, who looked very strong at this point.
  • Photo 4: The first Central Park Track Club runner was Ricardo Granados, who is slightly ahead of New York Flyer Tim Decker.
  • Photo 5: The second Central Park Track Club runner was Jud Santos.
  • Photo 6: This is the rear view of Jud Santos, who was literally walking on air.
  • Photo 7: This is the out-of-uniform Alan Turner, who had gone by before we could even blink.
  • Photo 8: This is NYU runner Kam Chang, who has been hanging out with us.
  • Photo 9: This is the out-of-uniform J.R. Mojica, a new member who would have worn a club uniform if only one was available.
  • Photo 10: Nathan Klejman is actually in charge of the club uniforms, but he was still out-of-uniform.
  • Photo 11: Here is Gerald McCarthy with the parrot Hector perched on his shoulder.
