1998 Holiday 4 Mile / 15K Runs

Pre-race Activities

  • Photo 1: Michele Tagliati and Ramon Bermo are going through their warm-up sprints.  Ramon is really proud about his orange-colored gloves.
  • Photo 2: After the warm-up, it is time to get behind the starting line to stand and freeze.
  • Photo 3: Rori Spinelli wants to know how come she has not heard from the club since sending in her application over a month ago.  As a result, she could not run for the club today.  Luca Trovato will have to devise an alternate solution to her problem.
  • Photo 5: Rori Spinelli stands tall at the starting line.
  • Photo 6: Luca Trovato climbs up on the lamppost to take pictures.  This will be the first time that he has taken running pictures in his professional career.
  • Photo 4: J.R. Mojica has a video camera.
  • Photo 7: Fasil Yilma shows that spectatorship is an intense sport.
  • Photo 8: Oh, this is not a racer, just the rock-and-roll star Bola Awofeso.

200m to the finish of the 4 mile race

  • Photo 11: Ramon Bermo charges to the finish.  His goal time was 5:25 pace; he ended up with 5:26, by his count.  Of course, the official timekeeper gave him a Christmas present of two more seconds.  This is the same story at the 10K last week, when he aimed for 5:35 pace and ended with 5:36.
  • Photo 12: Michele Tagliati is being chased by a police squad car with a flashing light.
  • Photo 13: With 200m left to go, Mary Rosado is in her sprinter's stride.  Knees up, arms pumping ...
  • Photo 14: Although Luca Trovato's time today was slower than his usual time, he is sure looking good ... we are talking about total metamorphosis here ...
  • Photo 15: Caryl Baron drives to the finish.

4 miles into the 15K race

  • Photo 21: Monica Bonamego is probably training secretly for some marathon somewhere.
  • Photo 22: Irene Jackson came across a large, whistling pack of Central Park Track Club people.

Post-Race Activities

  • Photo 23: Frank Schneiger and Betty Marolla ran in the opposite direction of the races to cheer people.
  • Photo 24: Caryl and Steven Baron
  • Photo 25: Hot chocolate, bagels and conversations for Lynn Blackstone, Dave Blackstone and Mary Rosado.  While Mary and Lynn talk, Dave is whispering to them, "I think someone is pointing a camera at us ..."

Awards Ceremony

  • Photo 31: Michele Tagliati is undertaking the very delicate task of explaining to Isabella Tagliati that daddy did not win any trophies today.
  • Photo 32: Mary Rosado picks up yet another award.  Someone in the audience murmured, "Where does she keep all that junk?"
  • Photo 33: Diane Lebowitz was second in her age group.
  • Photo 34: Mary Rosado and Diane Lebowitz picked up the second-place Open Women's team medals.  Caryl Baron was the third scoring member.

Movie Star

  • MPEG: It is still commonly believed that we only take still photographs.  The fact of the matter is that our new camera is capable of taking MPEG movies.  For the record, our first victim was Ramon Bermo who delivered a message of love for the Christmas season in appreciation of all the things we did to him over the past year.
