1998 Harry Murphy Cross-Country 5K

This was yet another warm and humid day, not at all like the traditional cross-country running weather (cold, breezy and rainy).

  • Photo 1: After the race, Larry Glazer and Jud Santos conversed with Nancy Morales.
  • Photo 2: Given the hot weather conditions, hydration is all-important.  But does this picture of Jud Santos show a sense of desperation?
  • Photo 3: Last week, at the Henry Isola XC 4 Miler, Jud Santos wore a black singlet.  This week, he wore ... nothing.  Maybe it was because Mary Rosado promised to lend him a jog bra but she did not show.  Oh, and he also did not put down his team affiliation so that he was not on the scoring team.
  • Photo 4: After the race, though, Jud Santos put on the team orange t-shirt.
  • Photo 5: Larry Glazer explained that he got his shirt from the one sky-diving lesson that he ever took.   His hand gesture (namely, the big shove) showed how they got him to jump out of the plane.
  • Photo 6: Here are two people --- John Sargent and Eric Aldrich --- who looked surprised because they did not think a cool-down run merits press coverage.  Eric's time was 18:28 and John's time was 20:29, compared to Devon Sargent's best of 17:49 on the same course.  These two guys have lots of work ahead of them ...
  • Photo 7: This is a picture of our team leader Eric Aldrich, with his hardware in hand.  This was Eric's first appearance for the club, and he was the team leader for a first-place team.   Quite an auspicious start!
  • Photo 8: In order to lead the team, Eric had to beat Jud Santos.  Here, he just found out that Jud ran a 31:49 10K on the previous day.  By extrapolation, Eric's 10K time should be sub-31:00 now.
  • Photo 9: Joe Simonte posed with medal # 673 (or something like that) in his career.  Who's counting?
  • Photo 10: Roland Soong posed with medal # 2 of this year.  He's counting because he isn't going to get many of those the way he has been running, if justice exists.  He was also the fifth scorer on the first-place Open Men's team, thanks to Jud Santos and Larry Glazer not putting in their club affiliations.  This may be the last time in Roland's life that he scores for the team.
  • Photo 11: Seth Okrend wanted to know where his medal was.  Let's not get greedy, Seth.  You have been coming up to Van Cortlandt Park for the last 20 years and hauling stuff away.  Give other people a chance.
  • Photo 12: The visitors to our web site are not just limited to our club members.  Here Mary Spera (of Millrose) was trying to find out the answer to an unresolved issue posted on this web site.  Jud Santos was very quick to disavow all responsibilities and pointed his finger at someone else.
