Pre-Race Activities
- Photo
1: In western movies, a standard
trick is to attack with the sun behind your back so that the enemy
cannot see clearly what is coming at them. This was what
happened to Audrey Kingsley.
- Photo
2: Yumi Ogita goes through her stretching.
- Photo
3: J.R. Mojica shows Margarita Cabrera how
to do stretching.
- Photo
4: Margarita Cabrera shows J.R. Mojica that
she can stretch too.
- Photo
5: Tyronne Culpepper says, "Please take a
picture of me!" Well, if you insist ...
- Photo
6: Track runner Luca Trovato says, "I'm only
providing escort services today". Rori Spinelli
would be escorted to a personal best today.
- Photo
9. Michele Tagliati gets a photo opportunity with
his friend Serge from Belgium. Michele said, "The European
connection, you know."
- Missing photo: The newly married Adam
Bleifeld went by in a blur in a training run. Save your
energy, Adam!
- Photo
11: Craig Chilton and Colin Frew wore their
new uniforms for the first time. They seemed a bit shocked
to find themselves to be photographic subjects. Well, they
better get used to it ...
- Photo
12: Carmine Petracca gets a photo opportunity with
an Italian friend.
- Photo
13: Peter Allen makes equipment adjustment.
- Photo
14: Here are Frank Schneiger and Irene Jackson-Schon.
We are waiting for the inevitable complaint from Frank about not
shooting his right side.
- Photo
15: Charlie Stark and Victor Osayi say hello.
- Photo
16: It's 9:59am and Alan Ruben charges to the starting
line, only to be told that the race is delayed for ten minutes.
So he dashed off and came back in a wool jacket. This caused
Stacy Creamer to remark, "I have this image that Gordon
is shivering somewhere, minus her wool jacket."
- Photo
17: Here indeed are Alan Ruben with the wool jacket,
Gordon Bakoulis without the wool jacket and Joey Ruben
in the stroller.
- Photo
19: Alas, the race is finally about to start. A
final pose of Alan Ruben without the wool jacket, Gordon
Bakoulis with the wool jacket and Joey Ruben in the
stroller.

18: Group photo (left to right) Victor Osayi, Stuart
Calderwood, Carmine Petracca, Stacy Creamer and Luca Trovato.
Stuart and Stacy are the designated cheerleaders of the day.
Let's see --- the three racers wear sunglasses and the two cheerleaders
don't. Is this a pattern?
- Photo
20: At the starting line, we have Central Park Track Club
members Colin Frew, Craig Chilton, Alan Ruben, Carmine Petracca,
Peter Allen and Rick Shaver. We are missing that
Paul ("I'm always in the front row") Stuart-Smith
in the picture.
West 86th Street (2.2 miles into the race)
- Photo
21: Carmine Petracca, Alan Ruben, Paul Stuart-Smith
and Peter Allen are stretched out in a line. That
would not be the final order of finish, though.
- Photo
22: Peter Allen with a grimace.
- Photo
23: Craig Chilton has that pained look because
this is another uphill section. It goes without say that
the photographer is always positioned in these most awkward spots.
So everytime you go up a hill, you've got to remind yourself to
keep good form (and expression) because the photographer is likely
to be at the top.
- Photo
24: Colin Frew practices the no-look form.
- Photo
25: Charlie Stark is another no-looker.
- Photo
26: Tyronne Culpepper has sunglasses on, so it
is impossible to see if he is also a no-look practitioner.
- Photo
27: Irene Jackson is followed by Margarita Cabrera.
East 78th Street (4.8 miles into the race)
- Photo
31: Alan Ruben is our team leader, as is often
the case. Last week, another Master runner Stuart Calderwood
led the team. Does our coach have to keep reminding us that
the Masters are doing all the hard work?
- Photo
32: Paul Stuart-Smith was stalking Carmine Petracca,
and in fact passed him near the top of the hill. We recommend
Carmine to show up at the track workouts ...
- Photo
33: Craig Chilton wonders why the finish is at
the top of a hill.
- Photo
34: This is a photo of our friend Alexa Babakhanian,
who is trying to say something ... Alexa finished second
overall in the race.
- Photo
35: Stuart Calderwood tells Tyronne Culpepper
to speed it up because Carsten Strandlod is right behind
him. Before the race, those two had some trash talk about
trading elbows in the ribs if it were to come down to a sprint
finish. When the moment of truth came at the bottom of Cat
Hill, each was in fact ready to fold. "You go."
"No, you go." Whatever happened to guts and glory?
- Photo
36: Another instance of negative reinforcement, when everybody
tells Audrey Kingsley to chase down Victor Osayi.
They were also telling Victor that Audrey is going to kick his
butt!
Post-Race Activities
- Photo
41: Audrey Kingsley got an
award in her new (and more competitive) age group. She was
ninth overall, but only seventh in her age group. She would
have been second in her former age group.
- Photo
42: Audrey Kingsley tells Tyronne Culpepper,
"Eat your heart out!"
- Photo
43: Craig Chilton wonders, "I kill myself
out there, and this is all I get?" For the record,
he is holding the awards for the first-place Men's team.
New members Craig Chilton and Colin Frew were the
fourth and fifth scorers on the team, respectively, for a great
start. The noteworthy thing about this scoring team is that
they are all foreigners: Alan Ruben (United Kingdom), Peter
Allen (New Jersey), Carmine Petracca (Italy), Craig
Chilton (Canada) and Colin Frew (United Kingdom). Paul
Stuart-Smith (United Kingdom) would have been third if he
were eligible.
