The Carsten &
Mette Strandlod Farewell Party
On June 1st, 1999, Carsten and Mette Strandlod
are leaving us for Malawi. In their honor, Carol Tyler
and Paul Jimenez held a party on the evening of the Avon
10K race. As we told Carsten and Mette, they are our favorite
couple from Denmark (the fact that we couldn't name any other couple
from Denmark is immaterial).
We will miss them in many ways (Stacy Creamer
will miss hearing Carsten pronounce "Cøpenhagen", Tyronne
Culpepper will have only Victor Osayi now as his bane,
Audrey Kingsley will have no one to yap with on the run,
Chris Taylor will have no one to discuss the state of European
soccer, etc.).

honorees today.

02: Carol Tyler is the hostess today.
Carsten & Mette are sitting on the deck with
Chris Taylor and his sister Ann, who is on a 5-day
visit from the United Kingdom. For the out-of-towners, we
should point out that this is not your typical New York City apartment,
because it is gorgeous! The rest of us live in holes!
So what is the subject of the conversation here? Hmm, so
... how many more years of soccer does Peter Schmeichel
have left?

03: Julie Denney, Ana Echeverri and Bola
Awofeso are some of the guests today.

04: But the star of the show is everybody's darling, Joey
Ruben.

05: Even though Joey Ruben is genetically endowed
with max VO2 cells from parents Alan Ruben and Gordon
Bakoulis, he still has to get his vitamins.

06: Stuart Calderwood is perusing a copy of a magazine
that had an article on the Alan Ruben. When Stuart
realized that someone had snapped this photo, he said, "Ah,
I can visualize the caption to the photo already --- Stuart
Calderwood wonders how he can get his name into the New
England Runner too, and the answer is that he can try running
a 2:30:38 marathon with 1:15:12 and 1:15:26 splits on a hot day
at the Boston Marathon." Looking at Stuart's t-shirt,
we can also offer this additional piece of advice, "Finishing
fifth in the Backwards Mile isn't going to get you in there."

07: What are these people doing? They are watching
the J.R. Mojica video production of the Avon 10K
race from earlier today.
