PRE-RACE ACTIVITIES
- Photo
01: Peter Allen says, "I've got police escort."
- Photo
02: Jose LaSalle says, "Stay away from me.
I've got sharp elbows."
- Photo
03: Richie Borrero says, "Take photos of me.
I'm the guy with the white hat." Well, considering
the fact there are several thousand entrants in this race, this
might be hard to do.
- Photo
04: We can give Richie this helpful tip: "If you
are not wearing orange yourself, then at least stay close to someone
else who does, especially the very noticecable Alan Ruben."
- Photo
05: Ana Echeverri on the other hand wants no publicity
photos, since they will show that she has no race number (she
was actually entered in the race). Carol Tyler has
no number either, but she is not racing.
- Photo
06: Dan Sack says, "I am running a handicap
race today, with those two broken bones in my back."
3 MILE MARK (West 85th Street)
- Photo
11: Richie Borrero took our advice to heart, and
stuck close to Alan Ruben.
- Photo
12: Peter Allen was temporarily attached to a large
group, including Super Runner Shop's Rashid Azim.
- Photo
13: Tyronne Culpepper was informed, "Audrey
is right behind you."
- Photo
14: Before the race, Jose LaSalle said, "How
was the Club Team Championship race? I was looking through
the results. I was hoping you would run that race."
Thanks, but no thanks.
5.5 MILES (Cat Hill)
- Photo
21: Running easily all by himself was Bola Awofeso,
until a photographer jumped out to snap this photo. For
the record, the astonished Bola said, "Oh, shit!"
- Photo
22: Richie Borrero leads the uphill charge, ahead
of Alan Ruben and Alan's age group rival Jaime Palacios.
- Photo
23: That big pack that Peter Allen ran with is
now strung out behind him.
- Photo
24: Tyronne Culpepper goes up the hill.
- Photo
25: Audrey Kingsley wonders, "How you still
going to be take photos in the second and third loops?"
Of course, it is our job.
- Photo
26: Kim Mannen is one of many runners doing this
incognito thing.
- Photo
27: Another one is Mary Messite, in white incognito.
- Photo
28: Wearing a vintage singlet is Michael Rosenthal,
who owns the internet service provide Walrus. The rock behind
him is the one on which the cat perches.
- Photo
29: Frank Schneiger needs to understand that we
can't always get to photo his good side.
10.5 MILES (61st Street)
- Photo
31: By this point, the race leaders are already lapping
the back of the pack. Here, we still have Richie Borrero
ahead of Jaime Palacios and Alan Ruben. Do
not be deceived by that Alan's distressed look, because this man
is a notorious negative split runner who is going to pick up the
pace soon.
- Photo
32: Peter Allen could switch to a bike easily.
- Photo
33: Tyronne Culpepper could switch to rollerblades
easily.
- Photo
34: Jose LaSalle runs in front of the Central Park
South buildings.
- Photo
35: Audrey Kingsley said, "I am not surprised
to see you." Neither are we surprised to see her.
- Photo
36: Eve Kaplan, Kim Mannen and Sandra
Olivo are running together, and maximising their photo op.
- Photo
37: Monica Bonamego in black incognito.
- Photo
38: Does Harvey Agosto really want to preserve
his incognito status?
- Photo
39: Now we caught Frank Schneiger's other side
too. We can't lose now (but we can't win either).
- Photo
40: Michael Rosenthal once ran the New York
City Marathon on zero training. Yes, zero. This
year, it will be more than zero after this race.
- Photo
41: J.R. Mojica treats this as a long training
run.
- Photo
42: John Gleason in topless incognito, Jarl
Berntzen in gray incognito.
- Photo
43: Guenter Erich is highly visible in his new
singlet.
16 MILES (59th Street & Seventh Avenue)
- Photo
51: Alan Ruben has gapped Jaime Palacios
now.
- Photo
52: Peter Allen looks quite fresh.
At this point, the photographer has done his hours
for the workday. They don't have the budget to pay overtime.
In fact, they don't have a budget at all and they don't pay him
at all ...
