FEEDING FRENZY

  • Photo 11: Jackie Onassis makes a special appearance to check out the scene.
  • Photo 12: The strategy meeting is chaired by Bola Awofeso at the head of the table.  Nobody else (Andreas Nolte, Alan Ruben and Stacy Creamer included) seems to be paying any attention, but that's just fine with Bola --- his proposed strategy has one (and only one) point, namely that Bola Awofeso shall run the final leg and cross the finish line under the clock.
  • Photo 13: Glassy-eyed Stuart Calderwood swigs a drink to wake himself up.
  • Photo 14: May Chilton on the other side of the table needs a wake-up call too.

THE FOOD (subtitle: "You are what you eat")

Now try to match the dishes against the persons.

PRE-RACE ACTIVITIES

  • Photo 21: Final adjustments: Eve Kaplan, Ana Echeverri, Andreas Nolte, Thomas Pennell and Gordon Streeter.   Andreas is a long-time Central Park Track Club member, as indicated by his early 1990's singlet.
  • Photo 22: Craig Chilton is the A-team leadoff runner.  Hydrate, Craig!
  • Photo 23: Peter Allen warns Gordon Streeter, Rhonda Allen and Stacy Creamer, "Watch out for that camera!"
  • Photo 24: May Chilton knows who is the real star of this show --- Bola Awofeso.

THE MEN'S TEAMS

  • Photo 51: Peter Allen and Alan Ruben goes through their warmup routine.
  • Photo 52: The leadoff runner for the A team is Craig Chilton.  This is a sideway view of the guy with the good running form.
  • Photo 53: Alan Ruben flew in from Budapest the day before to run this race.
  • Photo 54: Peter Allen starts the anchor leg for the A team along the waterfront
  • Photo 55: Peter Allen comes from the home stretch.  He is recorded by a videocamera on one side, but everyone else on the other side is looking at something else.
  • Photo 56: Peter Allen crosses under the finish clock in 2:26:27, with the satisfaction that this is faster than Alan Ruben's individual PR.
  • Photo 57: Peter Allen receives a congratulatory handshake from a young boy.
  • Photo 58: Andreas Nolte was volunteered by his team captain Bola Awofeso to run two legs for the B team under a blazing sun, in spite of his protestations that he had not radced in two years.
  • Photo 59: Meanwhile Thomas Pennell was volunteered by his team captain Bola Awofeso to run what looks like a nasty uphill leg.
  • Photo 60: Bola Awofeso exercised his team captain's prerogative to reserve the anchor leg for himself.  But with glory also comes responsibility.  Here he is doing the fastest 800m of his life, because the loud cheering caused him to think that someone was right behind him.  Of course, no one was there.
  • Photo 61: Bola Awofeso wanted desperately to have a photo of himself finishing a marathon in 2:40:32 so that he can retire gratefully.  Unfortunately, destiny intervened in the form of a few race officials.
  • Photo 62: Bola Awofeso walks through the chute all smiles, without realizing yet the photographic proof does not exist.
  • Photo 63: Now Thomas Pennell and Bola Awofeso can sit down, relax and wait for the awards ceremony.
  • Photo 64: Sharing the hardware loot are Peter Allen, Stuart Calderwood, Bola Awofeso and Andreas Nolte.
  • Photo 65: Several months after the race, the following official finish photo arrived.  You can bet that Bola Awofeso has this one framed for prominent display.  If you have a microscope, you might be able to see Thomas Pennell as the second spectator from the right.

THE WOMEN'S TEAM

  • Photo 70: Ana Echeverri is in fine running form.
  • Photo 71: Post-race interview of Ana Echeverri by her teammates.
  • Photo 72: Audrey Kingsley gets ready to take off, as Alan Ruben and Ana Echeverri watch.
  • Photo 73: Audrey Kingsley was volunteered by acclamation to run the longest leg.
  • Photo 74: Rhonda Allen looks hard down the road.
  • Photo 75: Rhonda Allen gets ready to make the exchange.
  • Photo 76: Stacy Creamer goes into the home stretch to the cheers of the welcoming crowd.
  • Photo 77: Stacy Creamer crosses the finish line for the winning women's team.
  • Photo 78: Instant replay for Stacy Creamer.
  • Photo 87: Instant replay for Stacy Creamer.
  • Photo 79: Stacy Creamer does the winner's walk through the chute.
  • Photo 80: Stacy Creamer receives accolades from number one fan Stuart Calderwood.
  • Photo 81: Team # 5474 is the winning Central Park Track Club women's team: Stacy Creamer, Rhonda Allen, Eve Kaplan, Audrey Kingsley and Ana Echeverri.
  • Photo 82: This may be appear to be the same photo as the previous one, but there is one marked difference.  Can you spot it?
  • Photo 83: Another shot of the women: Audrey Kingsley, Rhonda Allen, Stacy Creamer, Ana Echeverri and Eve Kaplan.
  • Photo 84: The women's team makes their fashion statement in civilian clothes: Rhonda Allen, Eve Kaplan, Ana Echeverri, Stacy Creamer and Audrey Kingsley.
  • Photo 85: Four and half members of the women's team: Stacy Creamer (1/2), Rhonda Allen, Ana Echeverri, Audrey Kingsley and Eve Kaplan.
  • Photo 86: Mood indigo blue, with Eve Kaplan and Ana Echeverri (plus half of Audrey Kingsley).

GROUP PORTRAIT (see the batting lineup at the top of this page)

  • Photo 91: In this first group photo, some of the people are looking away in another direction.
  • Photo 92: In this second group photo, we find out that those people were looking in the direction of this camera.
  • Photo 93: Okay, finally, everybody altogether in this one (and only one) direction!  And you thought it was all just point-and-click.

THE DOG

  • Photo 99: When we received the photos, there was one with a dog in it.  We have no idea what this means, and we need some help to explain this.  So far, no one has enlightened us about this matter.   Audrey Kingsley has said, "I think this must be killing you --- the idea that there is something out there that you don't know about!"
