After the Club Championships race on August 19,
2000, there was a brunch for Central Park Track Club members and
friends at Carol Tyler's apartment on the Upper West Side.
Her roofdeck was filled to the brim with people who ate, drank and
chatted.
THE ORGANIZERS
- Photo
01: Carol Tyler was gracious enough to put up with
this mob at her very nice multiplex apartment. Another instrumental
organizer is our social director Julia Casals, who is leaving
momentarily for California but is as yet totally unpacked ("as
long as I know where my swimming suit is, everything will be fine.").
Others among the credits are Eve Kaplan and Sid Howard.

FOOD & DRINKS
- Photo
21: First there were three empty bottles, then there
were four and then there were five. We promised that we
won't identify the responsible party because she had a great race
today and deserved every bottle.

22: Bring your own food if you wish. Here
is Kim Mannen's contribution, which is distinctly not Texan
home cooking.

23: In appreciation of his efforts, a thank-you
cake was to be presented. Unfortunately, Tony Ruiz
was locked out of his car and had to go back to Brooklyn to fetch
his extra keys. So this is the photographic representation
of the cake that he would have seen. Although this cake
would make an appearance later at the softball game, the lettering
had melted away by then.
PHOTOS OF RELAXED PEOPLE

11: Jonathan Pillow is a picture of contentment.

12: Rob Zand hates early morning races.
To wake up for this race, he said that he used four alarm clocks.
So now is the time to lay back and relax.

13: Victor Osayi was bumped down to sixth
(and non-scoring) masters this race. Of course, he knew
about the big four (Alan Ruben, Stuart Calderwood, Peter Allen,
John Kenney) were there, so he keyed on Tom Hartshorne.
Instead, unknownst to him, 51-year-old Alston Brown ran
in a generic orange singlet and opened the race with a 5:05 mile
to become the fifth master on the team (and 1st overall Male 50+).
Victor says, "That's okay. Now that I know who he is,
it won't happen next time." Hmmm, Victor, how about
keying on someone from another team?

14: After a personal best today, Olivier Baillet's
work is not done yet. He has the Central Park Triathlon
for tomorrow morning, and Ironman USA in 2001 (as detected by
Ramon Bermo, who has lots of time of hand outside of his
own training to browse through race entry databases).

15: Tyronne Culpepper ran easy today, and
nursed a bottle of beer as his reward.

16: John Scherrer said, "I can summarize
my race today in three words --- 'I blew it!' However, I
can say that my first three miles (15:40) were even faster than
that in the Gridiron 5K in January."
