Harry Murphy Cross Country 5K

WOMEN'S RACE

STARTING LINE

  • Photo 01Stacy Creamer gets the thumbs-up sign from Stuart Calderwood.

  • Photo 02:  Is that the "hook-'em, 'horns" sign?  If so, then this is a surprise for us to find that Audrey Kingsley is from Texas.  Not even Kim Mannen or Rob Zand would go about doing that ...

  • Photo 03Margaret Angell said, "I won't need a watch for a cross-country race."

  • Photo 04:  New member Janice Brown said, "When I get my team singlet, you will be able to take photos of me."  Why wait?  Let's do one now.

  • Photo 05Stacy Creamer stands tall.

  • Photo 06:  ... now pan back to look at the entire line up ...

  • Photo 07:  ... now pan back to include the trees and the grass ...

  • Photo 08:  ... and now they're off to the races ...

1 MILE

  • Photo 21:  This photo contains our three scorers of the day: Stephanie Gould, Margaret Angell and Stacy Creamer.  Good luck in identifying Stephanie, but she's there!

1.4 MILES

  • Photo 34Audrey Kingsley almost tripped at this point.  That would have put her in the illustrious company of Suzy Favor Hamilton, who tripped a couple of years ago at the Fifth Avenue Mile right in front of the same cameraperson.

400m TO GO

MEN'S RACE

STARTING LINE

  • Photo 43:  Let it be said that we do take some splendid pictures (when we get lucky).  The two lucky people in this one are John Scherrer and Jonathan Pillow.  Comment from John Scherrer: "When did they switch to artificial turf?"  Answer:  Sorry, but our graphic artist got carried away with the 'saturated' dial in Adobe PhotoShop.

  • Photo 44Alston Brown and Victor Osayi

  • Photo 40:  This is the starting line in all its majestic splendour.  This is meaning of 'communion with nature.'

  • Photo 41:  Traditionally, cross country races start with a wide lineout with teammates next to each other in their team colors.  Are you listening, Rob Zand?

  • Photo 42:  Once the race starts, it is every man for himself.

1 MILE

  • Photo 11:  Who are the leaders at this point?  Would you believe Stacy Creamer, followed closely by Eve Kaplan?

  • Photo 12:  Here comes the real leader, Toby Tanser.  Check out the gap that he has already built.

  • Photo 13Jonathan Pillow, Erik Goetze, Rob Zand

  • Photo 14Stuart Calderwood with John Kenney in pursuit

  • Photo 15Eric Aldridge

  • Photo 16Jeff Kisseloff

  • Photo 17Arthur Cooke

  • Photo 18Roger Liberman

1.4 MILE

  • Photo 51Toby Tanser already has a lead of 10-15 seconds at this point.
  • Photo 52Erik Goetze
  • Photo 53Isaya Okwiya, Craig Chilton and Alston Brown.  This is the only photo of the day for Craig!  Where was he hiding?
  • Photo 54Stuart Calderwood floats by with this query, "Any sight of Alan Ruben?"  Why ask?  Stuart was having a bad case of overheating.  When told that Alan has not been sighted, he realized that he would have to finish the race as the third masters.  What a guy!
  • Photo 55Eric Aldrich
  • Photo 56Jeff Kisseloff
  • Photo 57:  Looking way too cool in the middle of a pack is Arthur Cooke.
  • Photo 58David Birchfield
  • Photo 59:  After the race, Phil Vazquez asked, "How did I look today?"  Phil, you look just great, as always!
  • Photo 60Roger Liberman

  • Photo 76:  Best move of the day came from Roger Liberman, who cut right in front of another runner to get his photo taken.

  • Photo 96:  Post-race analysis session with Eric Aldridge, Erik Goetze and Jonathan Pillow
  • Photo 97Rob Zand asked, "Why are you here now?  Where were you when I did well at the Club Championships?"  It's okay, Rob, we still love you no matter what.  Really ...  Follow-up:  One week later, Rob Zand would run the Philadelphia Distance Run in a personal best of 1:12:59, causing him to say: "What a difference a week makes!"  The fact was that his time in every 5K of that half marathon was faster than he ran in this one 5K.
  • Photo 89:  How shall we name this photo of Alex Peterhansl and David Birchfield?  How about Déjeuner sur l'Herbe?

PHOTO CREDIT:  Here is one of our photographers, Bola Awofeso, with Margaret Angell.  Our other photographer is the one who took this photo, and he unfortunately missed out on what is so funny.
