NORWEGIAN 5K RUN

  • Photo 01:  In spite of what the sign above Toby Tanser's head says, this is not 6 miles.  This one is a five kilometer (3.1 mile) race.

  • Photo 02:  For this race, they trotted out the big guns --- world marathon record holder Khalid Khannouchi (USA), two-time New York City Marathon winner John Kagwe (Kenya) and another two-time New York City Marathon winner German Silva (Mexico).

  • Photo 03:  Whatever is making Toby Tanser smile is also doing the same to Fasil Yilma, who wants the best of both worlds --- a picture of himself and an off-the-record run.

  • Photo 04 G'mo Rojas was on duty at the finish line.  For the first wintry day of this season, he has obviously made sure that he is absolutely prepared for any sudden drop in temperature --- can you count how many extra coats he is holding in his hand?

  • Photo 05Toby Tanser finishes in 2nd place.  Our photographer (who is the only person present at the corner of 72nd Street and West Drive) could have helped Toby win this thing by steering the first-place out-of-towner all the way to the Trump Plaza instead.

  • Photo 06:  This photo of Sylvie Kimché is a historical moment as this is Toby Tanser's first published photo.  That is really bad news, because now you can't even run away from the photographer like you can with our other people.

GRETE'S GREAT GALLOP

Since the Staten Island Half Marathon next week on that flat course is a scoring race, the team  turnout today was relatively low.

  • Photo 11:  The very reluctant Shelley Farmer says, "What!?  Picture time, again!?  When is this ever going to stop!?"  The very happy James Siegel says, "Finally, after so many months, I will get a proper photo on the website!"

Postscript:  After the race, their feeling would be completely reversed.  The very happy Shelley Farmer finished third overall in the race, and the very shocked James Siegel wrote this note:  "I'm writing to report an egregious offense. I ran the half marathon today in 1:28:45, yet there was no record of this achievement in the official results.  I'm at a loss to explain this oversight since I was properly registered and my chip was also properly affixed to my shoe.  There should be ample documentation by the crew of CPTC photographers who snapped pictures of my smiling visage at several points during the race (editor's note: see the feature photo on the top of this page). I was also just behind those two fleet-footed Brits --- Graeme Reid and Jerome O'Shaunnessy.  A full scale investigation into this matter is imminent!"
  • Photo 12Yves-Marc Cortines looks around and says, "Where?  Who's taking photos?  I love getting my picture taken!"
  • Photo 13Suso Montero says, "Actually, I'm running my own race and I don't care if anyone takes a picture or not."
  • Photo 21:  This race brought out a nostalic reprise --- here is Ricardo Granados in an early 1990's Central Park Track Club singlet.
  • Photo 22:  This is a mid-1990'sCentral Park Track Club singlet on Charlie Hanley.
  • Photo 23Olivier Baillet in the park with the tall city building rising above the treeline.
  • Photo 24Arthur Cooke
  • Photo 25Tyronne Culpepper
  • Photo 26:  A moment of angst for Yves-Marc Coutines --- "To drink this cup of water or not --- that is the question."
  • Photo 27Roger Liberman
  • Photo 28:  As the runners streamed by, spectator Sarah Gross said, with hands on hip, "I'm glad I'm only watching."
  • Photo 29:  This is the post-race group photo.
  • Photo 30:  Not everyone on the team made it into the group photo --- Craig Plummer defends his privacy by assuming a martial art stance.
