PRE-RACE ACTIVITIES
-
Photo
01: A nice spring morning drew Jeff Kisseloff down
to the park from his country estate. Kim Mannen
is behind him.
-
Photo
02: Tyronne Culpepper says, "The Central
Park Track Club singlet requires shorts with matching colors."
-
Photo
03: Believe it or not, social mixing is actually admissible,
so long as they (Stéphane Bois and Eve Kaplan)
wear their own team uniforms and are chaperoned by a New York
City park ranger.
-
Photo
04: This man in the Central Park Track Club singlet
has two red dots on his cheeks. Why ... ?
-
Photo
05: Oh, we get it --- Ramon Bermo is supposed
to be a Pokémon.
-
Photo
06: Here are two more members of The Fast Pokémons
team --- Julia Casals and Sylvie Kimché.
-
Photo
07: Julia says, "When the Pokémons get together,
they get electrically charged and they can go much faster."
Yes, we can discern the mind of Toby Tanser behind all
this.
-
Photo
08: Harry Morales says, "Don't worry.
I won't ask you to hold my handkerchief for me."
LOOP 1 (5 MILES)
- Photo
11: Running in the Ralph Lauren Polo singlet
is Stéphane Bois. He will be billed for getting the
name of his advertising patron mentioned in this paragraph.
We are obviously obnoxious enough to copyright this photo to prevent
unauthorized usage.
- Photo
12: Here is the lead runner of The Fast Pokémons,
Ramon Bermo. He would come back to run the fourth
leg of his NYU relay team.
- Photo
13: In the full 20 Miler, Alan Ruben is followed
by Jaime Palacios.
- Photo
14: The very camera-shy Craig Chilton is flanked
by Harry Morales on his right and Rich Hollander on
his left.
- Photo
15: Arthur Cooke looks like he started his first
loop very aggressively.
- Photo
16: Olivier Baillet almost sneaked past our photographer.
- Photo
17: Dan Hamner is not in the race, but he was collateral
damage caused by the photographer.
- Photo
18: We need a sign interpreter to figure out what Tyronne
Culpepper is trying to say. More significant is the
presence of Kim Mannen, who is supposedly on a countdown
schedule --- the Boston Marathon is supposed to be her
tenth (and last ever) marathon as she will turned to running track
from then on; so this twenty-miler may also be her last?
LOOP 2 (9 MILES)
- Photo
21: Here is a photo of an unidentifiable team --- the
Borrero twins in a relay team. Which one is this?
Richie or Danny? Answer: The official listing says #2281
is Richie.
- Photo
22: After two loops, Alan Ruben is still just ahead
of Jaime Palacios. In fact, the same configuration
reappeared on the third loop.
- Photo
23: Craig Chilton and Rich Hollander are
still chained together.
- Photo
24: Olivier Baillet and Arthur Cooke running
in tandem. In this case, the photographer was strategically
positioned at the crest of Cat Hill for maximum effect.
- Photo
25: Audrey Kingsley failed in her evasive maneuver
to dodge behind another runner.
- Photo
26: Ross Galitsky makes a little speech, "I'm
not Superman. Even though I did the 830am Biathlon before
this 20 Miler, I did not do the 6am bicycle race."
See the cat on the hill?
LOOP 3 (14 MILES)
- Photo
31: Yawn! It's Craig Chilton
and Rich Hollander again.
- Photo
32: Harry Morales.
- Photo
33: Olivier Baillet, sans Arthur Cooke
now.
- Photo
34: Looking at his shadow cast by the intense sun on the
ground, Arthur Cooke must be thinking, "It's HOT today."
- Photo
35: Sylvie Kimché says, "This Pokémon really
doesn't feel very fast today." After looking at this
photo, she said, "I look amazingly well considering how poorly
I was feeling."
- Photo
36: Tyronne Culpepper laughs at the sight of some
guy in an orange t-shirt wearing a backpack wrapped around a lamppost
pointing a camera at him.
LOOP 4 (18 MILES)
- Photo
41: Here is a mystery again --- white numbers are
for relay runners, but here is the same Borrero in legs 2 and
4. Or is it? According to the official listing, #3281
is Danny. But are you sure? Compare with Photo 21.
Can you tell the difference?
- Photo
42: Alan Ruben is full of 'negative' thoughts ---
whereas Jaime Palacios ran right with him for the first
three loops, Alan absolutely hammered the last loop. Alan's
lead at this point was 45 seconds.
