PRE-RACE ACTIVITIES

  • Photo 01:  Color coordination is what it is all about.
  • Photo 02:  "Sid Howard.  Does anyone know where Sid Howard is?"  "Hmmm ... can't you see that we're kinda busy getting ready?  Sid must be jogging somewhere."
  • Photo 03:  Big orange-jacketed cheering squad running in the opposite direction (from left): Josh Friedman, Kim Mannen, Jerome O'Shaughnessy and Lauren Eckhart.
  • Photo 04:  "Excuse us, fellows, why do you have to climb to the top of a hill in order to change your clothing?  Are you guys exhibitionists?"  "The ground is all rain-soaked.  This rock is the only dry spot around here.  Get it?"
  • Photo 05Alayne Adams: "I don't know why I am doing this ..."
  • Photo 06Shai Waisman said, "I know this man!  He was a spectator at the Philadelphia Marathon, wearing the orange jacket.  When I ran by him, I yelled out 'Central Park Track Club.'  Since he had never seen me before, he was probably astonished that someone in Philadelphia could identify his team so spontaneously."  Shai also thanked us, "I want to thank you for listing me as a Philadelphia Marathon participant on your home page.  Shula Sarner called me up and asked me if I was really running that race.  I said, 'How do you know that?'  She said, 'It's posted all over the Internet.'  I said, 'You're kidding!'  She said, 'No, I'm not!'"  Finally Shai wants to thank Audrey Kingsley, "How many people can claim to have Audrey running with them for the last ten miles of the race?  She was saying things like, 'Here are some of my teammates.  You better keep running and not embarrass me!'"
  • Photo 07Audrey Kingsley must be wondering: "Are all photographers voyeurs?"
  • Photo 08Patrick Cowden and Mary V. Rosado run along the trails

  • Photo 78Tyronne Culpepper ahead of Sid Howard
  • Photo 79:  The loneliness of the long distance runner.  This long distance runner (Gordon Holmes) is lonely because he began his race about 15 minutes after the others!

MILE 1.7 (WEST 98th STREET)

  • Photo 11Toby Tanser is the first Central Park Track Club runner at this point, and fifth place overall.  When asked at the start if he has any physical ailments today, he said, "Ah, I have issues.  I always have issues.  I think the only people who don't have issues will be the male and female winners of today's race."
  • Photo 12Josh Feldman and Isaya Okwiya
  • Photo 13Richie Borrero and Erik Goetze.  Look hard enough and you will find Stuart Calderwood.
  • Photo 14Bill Haskins (first time in orange instead of red) and Noel Comess
  • Photo 15:  Dave Howard ahead of Suso Montero, with Kevan Huston in the background.
  • Photo 16Kevan Huston
  • Photo 17Steve Paddock and James Siegel
  • Photo 18John Scherrer
  • Photo 19Alayne Adams, followed by Erik Schmitz
  • Photo 20Paul Sinclair.  Yo, Paul, what are you looking for?  The camera is this way.
  • Photo 21Audrey Kingsley: "I couldn't find my orange gloves this morning, so I guess I'll wear an orange singlet over my favorite long white sleeve shirt."
  • Photo 22Shula Sarner.  Runner #4672 is Jordan Metzl, who came up to Jeff Wilson at the start line, "Hi, are you going to be at the finish?  Could you look after my fanny pack and my jacket?  Good, thanks.  I'm not even going to ask what your name is.  Your orange jacket is good enough for me."  The reason why he is so trusting about a random orange-jacketed person can be found in this photo.

EAST 100th STREET (6.1 MILES)

  • Photo 31Toby Tanser
  • Photo 32Toby Tanser.  Note:  He's really not so slow that we can take two pictures; it's just that this is the perfect spot in the park and the digital camera comes with a 20X zoom.
  • Photo 33Josh Feldman and one-third of Isaya Okwiya
  • Photo 34Kevin Arlyck, with a big-time PR of 33:58
  • Photo 35Richie Borrero and Erik Goetze
  • Photo 36Alan Ruben, our first master finisher.
  • Photo 37Bill Haskins with Doug Hegley (NYH) right behind him
  • Photo 38Doug Hegley now ahead of Bill Haskins.  In case you are wondering about the final outcome, Bill finished ahead of Doug, both given the identical time of 35:02.
  • Photo 39Stuart Calderwood next to Hans Parrado (WS), with Ricardo Granados right behind.  Our master runners Alan, Stuart and Ricardo finished 2-6-7 for another win.  Actually, quite a while ago, this team had already claimed the divisional championship with the largest point margin among all the divisions.  This is the third year in a row that our masters team has won the club championship.  Today's race was therefore really a victory lap.
  • Photo 40Kevan Huston.   This photo is just the stuff for recruitment posters --- "If you want great photos, this is the team to join!"

  • Photo 42Noel Comess, another integral member of the masters team
  • Photo 43James Siegel

  • Photo 62:  Race leader Peter Sherry heads one way while the Central Park Track Club cheering squad heads the other way.
  • Photo 61Paul Sinclair.  No, this is not the same as Photo 47.  It's just that we were terribly inefficient by posting two photographers at the same spot.

Questions: Why are there numerous listings of New York Harriers?  Because some of them also run a google.com rating contest among themsevles ...
