WEST 86th STREET (8 MILE MARK)

  • Photo 11:  The leader in the race wears ... could there be any question? ... the US Postal Service-emblemed maillot jaune.  The maillot jaune in Central Park was worn by Stacy Creamer, the editor of Lance Armstrong.  The other cyclist must be her domestique, Stuart Calderwood?
  • Photo 12:  Okay, if it upsets you to see Stacy Creamer wearing the wrong color, we can change them with a little slide in PhotoShop.

FINISH LINE

  • Sorry, but there are no pictures here.  This is a two-lap course with lots of runners, which means that the leaders had to pass the slow runners at the finish.  The design was to let the fast runners finish on the inside lane, and the slow runner continue in the middle lane.  The problem was that the fast runners were running in the middle lane, sharing it with the fast cyclists coming at them at full speed.  In order to finish, the fast runners had to elbow their way through the crowd in order to get to the inside lane.  We thought it best not to take pictures, although the ambulance-chasing lawyers and doctors would have appreciated the evidence of gross negligence and reckless endangerment.  But why are we complaining?  After all, everything is relative --- have you ever run the travesty known as the Brooklyn Half Marathon consisting of four loops around Prospect Park?
  • Photo 31:  But there is one picture of Casey Yamazaki with Erika Maple Ogita-Yamazaki looking for her mom.
