Happy Mother's Day !!
HALF MARATHON
START

01: Jerome O'Shaughnessy offers this advice
for the racers, "Don't walk!"
- Photo
02: Considering the fact that Alayne Adams
had to get up at 6am to come to the park to run a half-marathon,
it is difficult to imagine what funny thing she could be saying
to Alexa Babakhanian.
- Photo
03: Maybe what Alayne Adams was saying is
something like, "I got out of running this race last year
only because I was very pregnant."
7.2 MILES (West 73rd Street)

11: Alayne Adams followed by Jean Chodnicki-Stemm.
Alayne said, "Actually, Jean and I had a long conversation
during the race. We were cursing about whomever had this
idea that coming out into the park early morning to run a half
marathon is the way to spend Mother's Day. They should have
just made it the 5K only."
- Photo
12: Stephanie Gould wore her trademark oversized
all-weather grey t-shirt. She explained, "This is my
good luck shirt from the 1996 Powerbar Run."
- Photo
13: Upon learning that the team might be short-handed
for this race, Lauren Eckhart volunteered to run what would
be the longest race in her life. The coach's strategy for
her: "Run 6:50 miles for the first half, and step it up to
under 6:40 afterwards." At this point, she reported,
"I'm feeling good."

14: Audrey Kingsley, just coming back from
the London Marathon
- Photo
15: Irene Jackson-Schon said, "Oh, it's
you!"
11.5 MILES (Cat Hill)
- Photo
21: Jean Chonicki-Stemm (WS) with Alayne
Adams. To continue the complaint: "... it wasn't
much of a race really! After the first mile, you don't see
anyone anymore. In a long-distance women's race (with a
shorter 5K race held simultaneously), the field is too thin to
make it interesting."
- Photo
22: Stephanie Gould is second on the team
today. This accomplishment is all the more significant considering
what happened the weekend before. According to our Global
Surveillance System, Stephanie crashed in a criterium bicycle
race at Orchard Beach, got up, continued and finished the race,
then said, "Oh, yes, I'll be running the half marathon next
week."
- Photo
23: Everything about Lauren Eckhart was great
today --- except she really does need to find shorts with matching
colors!
13 MILES (Tavern On The Green)
- Photo
41: Stephanie Gould, soaked in sweat under
that grey t-shirt.
- Photo
42: Lauren Eckhart said, "With less
than one mile to go, I heard Isaya Okwiya yelling, 'Lauren,
you're a miler! It's less than one mile to go. What
are you waiting for?'" Her final time was 1:28:28 (6:45
min/mile), exactly according to plan. Naturally, since this
was her first stab at this distance, it was a personal best.

47: Since we saw Amy Sheeran everywhere in
the park, we would even say that she logged more miles than the
half marathoners! P.S. She also said, "I thought
the front cover photo of me on the website this week was funny!"

plus Audrey Kingsley and her parents (who must account
for more than half of the hits to our website).

(NYF), 11th mile mark

93: Audrey Kingsley better look out, because
she is on a collision course with an unwary tourist at mile 11
- Photo
94: The Central Park Track Club is the toughest
team to be on --- not only does Audrey Kingsley have to
run well, but she has to pose for their camera crew (this team
consisted of Bola Awofeso and his spotter-assistant Jerome
O'Shaughnessy)
- Photo
95: Audrey Kingsley's worst nightmare ---
another camera person after the first one.
- Photo
96: Audrey Kingsley's face is frozen into
a smile for the camera persons.
POST-RACE (Mother's Day is for the kids)
- Photo
31: We are happy to report that this picture of
Rhya Gwendolyn Evans is all set to make our top 10 favorite
of the year 2001. Take a look at it! How dare anyone
vote against it?
- Photo
32: Charlotte Evans wants to know, "What
about me?" Well, Charlotte, you'll have to learn to
be less shy.
- Photo
33: Theo Evans performs a dangerous act on
his tricycle. This is also not a good candidate for the
top photo since it sets a bad example for others.
- Photo
34: Terri Sonenclar asked, "Did we have
a masters women team today?" Well, we would have had
a very good team if (1) Alayne's birthday came sooner and (2)
Terri remembers to write down CPTC on her entry form.

this part of the park in the opposite direction in the Spring
Couples Relay.

3 MILES
- Photo
66: At the 3 mile mark, by being patient, Stacy
Creamer was able to pass both Meredith Reh (NYH) and
Carly Berwick (MCNY). Maybe that's because Stacy
knew that this was a long course (3.35 miles) and she needed to
conserve more energy. This would seem to be repeat performance
of the 1997 Norway 3.35
mile run.

67: Kim Mannen, the most orange of all orange.
- Photo
68: Diane Lebowitz. Not sure if she
would consider this photo 'normal' ...

69: Mary V. Rosado. Check out those
rippling leg muscles!
