Snowflake Four Miler

Clodagh Rafferty

WOMEN'S RACE

MILE 1 (EAST 94th STREET)

MILE 1.2 (West 86th Street)

  • Photo 31:  Wily veteran Margaret Angell running with patience.

  • Photo 32Alayne Adams: "I will have you know that even though I am from Canada, I don't do well in the cold.  In fact, I have no feeling from the bottom half of my body."

  • Photo 33Lauren Eckhart, with Sue Pearsall behind.  The characterization that we 'borrowed' them from our middle-distance group for this race is totally incorrect, because there are no barriers between groups.

  • Photo 34Audrey Kingsley

  • Photo 35Clodagh Rafferty.  Take a good look at her, because chances are nobody except for Tony Ruiz has seen her before today.

  • Photo 36Sylvie Kimché, with Michelle Santomassino in yellow

  • Photo 37Irene Jackson-Schon

MILE 3.2 (EAST 83rd STREET)

  • Photo 41Margaret Angell

  • Photo 42Alayne Adams

  • Photo 43Kate Crowley

  • Photo 44Audrey Kingsley, with Clodagh Rafferty and Shula Sarner behind.  We regret to report that when those last two got near the photographer, the camera battery went dead right there and then ...

MILE 3.7 (EAST 93rd STREET)

  • Photo 51:  Coming in third place overall is Gordon Bakoulis of the Moving Comfort team

  • Photo 52:  Coming in fourth place overall is Margaret Angell.  At this point, she has not seen the clock yet and when she does, the agony of missing a sub-23:00 time would hit her.

  • Photo 54Alayne Adams, just ahead of Bec Wassner (MCNY).  Alayne started really really slow in her first race back, and then cranked it up at the end.  She said, "Unfortunately, a four mile race is too short to give up time in the beginning.  I could have probably chopped down another 15 seconds or so if I had gone out at a decent pace."

  • Photo 53Kate Crowley in her team debut.  She is so new that she has not yet gotten around to getting team uniforms.  She finished third on the team today to clinch second-place overall team behind Moving Comfort New York.  For both Kate and Clodagh, this was their first race in a long, long time (XC at Georgetown and Vassar, respectively) so things will only get a lot better.

  • Photo 55Lauren Eckhart

  • Photo 56Laurie Jones: "There are probably only three people in the whole park who recognized me.  And one of them had to be George Wisniewski and the other Tony Ruiz."  The third person told her, "We can see you from a mile away because of that vintage Michael Trunkes singlet."
