HALF MARATHON
Start (East 70th Street)

01: The half marathon was a women's club scoring
race. During the week, the men were encouraged to show
up to cheer the racers. That is why at 8am on a Sunday
morning, Jeff Wilson is eating a power breakfast at the
corner of West 72nd Street.

02: Lauren Eckhart: "It is eight minutes
before the start of the race. Where is my team?"
-
Photo
03: Shula Sarner: "This will be my
first race since January and my longest run of the year ...
don't I look happy?"
-
Photo
04: Mary Minieka: "Michael Rosenthal
insisted that I wear the orange singlet so I can get photographed."
-

05: Five minutes before race start, and the "A"
team emerged: Stephanie Gould, Margaret Angell
and Alayne Adams.

06: To the right of Alayne Adams and
Margaret Angell is Janina Malska (WIT), who won the
race by a large margin

07: The darling for all the male spectators on
the course is Jess King (unattached).

08: Jess King: "Margaret, are you
okay?"
-

09: Alayne Adams: "I spoke to my mom
at 7am this morning."

10: Lauren Eckhart to Stephanie Gould:
"I'm testing to see the effect of a 55-mile (easy) bike
ride before a half marathon."
West 73rd Street (1.2 mile mark)

Photo
11: In this women's-only half marathon, the top
women will be running mostly be themselves. Just past
one mile in the race, Margaret Angell is by herself already,
in sixth place.
-
Photo
12: By agreement, our women would all run at the
pace that they are comfortable with, instead of pack running.
Also running in the top ten are Alayne Adams and Stephanie
Gould. Coach Tony Ruiz had predicted times
for each of them, but of course he did not tell them beforehand.

13: After our projected top three, we bought three
insurance policies. Insurance policy#1 is Audrey Kingsley,
3:05 at the 2002 Boston Marathon.
-
Photo
14: Insurance policy#2 is Shula Sarner,
recovering from an injury. At this point, Shula said,
"I can still talk ..." Yes, save your breath
--- you might need it 12 miles from now.

5K RACE

61: Craig Chilton was fourth overall

62: We would have this picture of Craig Chilton
for the top of the page but for the fact that this was a women's
club scoring race.

to run this 5K, the Corporate Challenge on Thursday and then
the five mile scoring race on Saturday. Besides, I was
out sick this past week ..."
