Thomas G. Labracque Classic

START

  • Photo 01  Testing, testing, testing.  Yes, the camera is working.  This is a photo of Bethesda Fountain in Central Park, with the Angel of Waters rising up in the middle of the fountain.  This was the first civic fountain designed by a woman (Emma Stebbins) to be constructed in America.  The sculpture, dedicated in 1873, is a neoclassical winged female figure who symbolically blesses the water of the fountain with her one hand and carries a lily, the symbol of purity, in the other. The fountain celebrates the opening of the Croton Aqueduct, which brought fresh water to New Yorkers in 1842.

  • Photo 02  And the name of the race is the Thomas G. Labrecque Classic presented by J.P. Morgan Chase, and the goals of the race are to raise awareness of lung cancer and to raise money for cancer research.
