Q1.  This picture shows Toby Tanser finishing first in the 2000 Carey Wall Street Rat Race.  He did not win any awards, because they were reserved for people in business attire as determined by a panel of judges.  Now if Toby wanted simply to finish first in the race, he would have been in singlet and shorts.  Instead, he wore an outfit which cannot be conducive to fast running.  What did he have in mind?

(a)  Toby is well-known for wearing odd attire at races (see 1999 Not the New York City Marathon), so this was his way of attracting attention in this race.

(b)  Toby thought that he was supposed to dress in a way that reflects his particular business function, which is the Senior Vice-President of Business Development for the (orange-clad) Central Park Track Club.

(c)  Someone burglarized his apartment while he was sleeping, so all he had were his pyjamas (P.S. he wears his running shoes when he sleeps).

(d)  All ye frequent visitors of the Metropolitan Correctional Center (such as Frank Handelman and Roland Soong) would recognize that Toby was wearing the orange-colored prisoner's uniform.  Therefore, Toby must be making a point about all the white-collar criminals on Wall Street.

(a)  "Coach, if you don't put me on the Penn Relays 4x400m team, I'm gonna hold my breath until I turn blue and die."

(b)  "I dropped the baton at the Penn Relays. I must now atone for my mistake."

(c)  "What?  Another 800m set in the workout with just a short rest?  I might as well as hang myself because it would be less painful."

(d)  "I am the biggest prankster on this team, bar none.  Here is the proof!"

(a) "Dad, why do your runners take naps between running?"

(b) "Dad, why are you wearing a three-piece suit while everyone else is in running gear?"

(c)  "Dad, why do those women keep going behind that dumpster?"

(d)  "Dad, which one of these people is the famous Sid Howard?"

(a)  John Scherrer: "I know the reason why I get injured, and his name is Isaya (Okwiya)."

(b)  Craig Chilton: "If John Scherrer says that he is out of shape, then why is he leaving us for dead?"

(c)  Jonathan Pillow: "I'll just give those two pace pushers enough rope to hang themselves."

(d)  Con Edison: "It's rainy and cloudy tonight, so we can release more toxic chemicals from our 14th Street power plant into the atmosphere without anyone noticing."
 
 

(a)  The water fountains inside East River Park are not working, so you should bring your own liquid (see Bola Awofeso drinking Gatorade).

(b)  This carefully painted dumpster is an example of the beautification project operated by the New York City Department of Parks.  Commonplace objects can be pretty too.

(c)  This garbage dumpster is not meant as a deposit site for human waste!

(d)  Cutting off the sleeves of your t-shirt will make you a much faster runner.
