LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW ...
- Photo
01: The date is April 9th and this is supposed to
be springtime. Can you believe that this is what we saw
outside the window --- snow swirling around in the gusty winds?
- Photo
02: Frank Handelman said, "When I got
up this morning and saw the snow, I said to myself, 'I've got
to do this race now!'" Besides, he added, this is his
final race in the M50-54 age group. Happy birthday, Frank!
- Photo
03: Jerome O'Shaughnessy came with the right equipment
for the weather --- a cowboy hat!
MILE 1
- Photo
11: Toby Tanser is in the lead pack, all
of whom seemed to be running with eyes wide closed to avoid the
snowflakes getting into their eyes. Technical note: those
specks in the photo are snowflakes.
- Photo
12: Mary Rosado leads our women's master.
- Photo
13: Jane Kenney is another women's master.
- Photo
14: Sylvie Kimché is another women's master.
Their photos were taken because they were in orange! Please,
no more generic whites or dark blues! (technical note:
our first women's master finisher was in fact Julie Francis,
whom we could not locate at all).
MILE 3.1
- Photo
21: Back comes the lead pack of four with Toby
Tanser slightly ahead.
FINISH LINE
- Photo
31: Now is the time for Toby Tanser to pull out
all the stops.
- Photo
32: Unfortunately, this was not the day for Toby Tanser.
But this is nothing that cannot be fixed with a few track workouts
with Isaya Okwiya. The back of Toby's singlet reads
LIFEGUARD. Does anyone need to be saved from drowning today?
- Photo
33: Stephanie Gould was our first female finisher.
- Photo
34: Margaret Schotte was our second female finisher
in her first race for the club. It was only on April
1st that we spoke about her future contribution, and the
future is here already. Technical note: That's just
snow flakes accumulating on the top of her head and not white
hair --- she's only 24 years old.
- Photo
35: Audrey Kingsley was our third female finisher,
in her favorite white shirt with orange gloves.
- Photo
36: Blair Boyer did not have to use the ambulance
today.
- Photo
37: Mary Rosado got her photo taken, while Jane
Kenney and Sylvie Kimché were blocked from view.
POST-RACE ACTIVITIES
- Photo
41: Jane Kenney picked up the refreshment box and
then negotiated the mud to get the drinks.
- Photo
42: Margaret Schotte looked up and saw the camera.
She sounded quite relieved, saying "I thought that maybe
no one will know that I ran this race." Methinks that
she seriously underestimate our race coverage.
- Photo
43: Frank Handelman and Mary Rosado
are also in the queue.
- Photo
44: A very happy Sylvie Kimché said that she set
a PR today by breaking 31 minutes. Now, of course, that
PR refers to her second running career, as the four mile PR in
her first running career must be ... oh, say, at least 7 minutes
faster.
