CLIMB TO CURE CYSTIC FIBROSIS, Philadelphia, PA (February 24, 2002)

Comment: "Once again, I traveled a long distance in order to be first (and only) CPTC finisher"

KAWASAKI MONTHLY TIME TRIALS, Tokyo-Yokohama, Japan (February 24, 2002)

From Charles Allard Jr:

I raced against 138 brave souls today in windy and quite chilly (for the Tokyo area) conditions to place first in the 10k event of the Kawasaki Monthly Time Trials. The monthly 3k, 5k and 10k runs along the Kawasaki side of the river bank that seperates Tokyo from Kanagawa prefecture are attended by a core of runners one of whom received an award for running 250 consecutive monthly time trials. We mere mortals can only gaze in wonder. Keen readers of the web site will notice that I ran this race last month and finished 2nd. More than a minute faster finish in 37:34 was enough to guarantee the first spot but to be fair, the guy who beat me last month was not around.  At the end of the race I had my picture taken and was presented with a nice finishers certificate. Sure, maybe ten people will see the picture and about 5 people saw the awards ceremony, but the ceremony was completed any way. One thing the Japanese do well is ceremony.
