P.S.  Phew, pressure was off because Josh won yesterday ...

SNOWBALL SERIES 20K, Chesterfield, MO (December 30, 2001)

Josh Feldman, 1:10:05, 1st place overall

Before the last week of the year, the team had exactly 49 individual road wins.  We would have loved to get to 50.  On the final Sunday, this message came from Josh: Yes, our team can rest easy. I won the Snowball Series 20K in Chesterfield, MO. in a time of 1:10:05. I braved the early 7:15 AM start time, the 10 degree starting temperature, the brisk wind, and the tough competition all for the sake of the club! We can all rest easy now......."

P.S. We did have a backup plan with John Prather running on New Year's Eve in Arizona.  The technical problem is that John is not yet an official member, although he has gotten a headstart by painting his office wall orange ...

JACKSONVILLE HALF MARATHON, Jacksonville, FL (December 15, 2001)

Kevin Arlyck, 1:17:54 (5:57 min/mile), 3rd overall, 1st M25-29

Note: "I ain't got no alibi.  The one redeeming aspect was that I beat a former American marathon record-holder! Well, sort of.  I ran the early miles in a pack with Jerry Lawson, who was chatting and joking his way through the marathon (run concurrently with the half), pacing a friend of his. I didn't recognize him at first, but figured he was a bigshot when he mentioned having run this race in the early 90's on a whim, "just to get a Trials qualifying time."  I dropped the pack at about mile 6 in the vain hopes of catching the early leader (an 18 year-old kid who ran 2/3 of the race on the grass next to the road!). In hindsight, I should have stayed with them. You know what they say about misery..."
