Call For An Appointment
First of all, thank you for showing interest in
Massage Therapy and the services that I offer. Please take
the time to read the material presented on this page since it may
help you to determine whether or not massage therapy is what you
want and/or need.
THE HISTORY
Massage is one of the most natural and instinctive
means of relieving pain and discomfort. It has been around
for centuries. At one point in time, though, massage was looked
down upon and shunned because of all the negative connotations that
were associated with it. Now, in the 21st century, massage
has shed those negative connotations and is now universally accepted
as a form of therapy for various diseases and injuries, and in the
reduction of stress. This has led to the inclusion of massage
in the offices of health care providers, spas, athletic facilities,
and even large corporate offices. Various studies on the benefits
of massage have also contributed to its revived acceptance.
Now that massage has become more mainstream, it
has become more accessible to the general public. Rather than
a luxury for the rich and the famous, it is now a necessity in today's
fast pace world.
THE THERAPIST
A native of the Caribbean island of St. Croix, USVI,
I have been interested in massage since the age of 15. I pursued
this interest at the Swedish Institute of Massage Therapy from which
I graduated. Shortly afterwards, I received my New York State
Massage license. Since then, I have worked at various facilities
including Crunch Fitness Center, a chiropractor's office and at
the Home Spa. My love of massage, my ability to tune in to
my clients' needs, and my interest in adding more to my practice
keeps me focused and ready to give my clients the best. I
am also bilingual and so can those clients who speak Spanish.
THE SERVICES
Swedish Massage
Performed on a portable or stationary massage table, this is the
most common and well-known form of massage therapy. It is
used to relax the entire body or to help in the healing of a specific
muscle-related injury. It involves working directly into the
major muscles along with gentle, passive stretches performed at
the major joints in the body.
You can begin a Swedish massage on the back or on
the stomach, depending on your preference. All sessions will
cover the entire body including the scalp, face, and feet.
The chest and genitalia are never worked on. If there is an
area you would like to have focused on, it can be done. The
same goes for any area you would not like worked on. Always
remember, your Swedish session is especially designed for you.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage that is normally performed
on a mat on the floor (it can also be done on a massage table).
The aim of a Shiatsu session is to help with the even flow of your
Qi or life energy by unblocking any areas of the body which are
stagnant. In order to do so, continuous pressure is applied
to meridians which run along the scalp, face, arms, torso, and legs.
Gentle, relaxing stretches for the entire body are also incorporated
to help with the even flow of your Qi.
A Shiatsu session normally begins with a Hara evaluation
of the stomach to determine the areas of blockage, if any.
The corresponding meridians are then worked on.
Swedish-Shiatsu
This massage is done on a massage table and incorporates elements
of both a Swedish massage and a Shiatsu session. This type
of massage if ideal if you are concerned about your energy flow
yet you want a relaxing session.
PROCEDURES
Your comfort is very important, which is why I present
to you two options regarding where you can receive your massage.
You can come to my office or I can go to the place of your choice.
If you opt for the second, please make sure that there is sufficient
space, heat and ventilation for both your comfort and mine.
For Swedish massage and Swedish Shiatsu, I recommend
that you remove all articles of clothing. This will ensure
that you receive maximum benefit of the massage. I, of course,
will not rule out your comfort level, which is extremely important
to me. Therefore, you are allowed to leave on any article
of clothing that will make you comfortable.
For Shiatsu, you can leave on all of your clothing.
Prior to a Shiatsu session, however, I will advise that you wear
comfortable clothing that will allow for stretching. Spandex
clothing are highly recommended. Jeans or clothing with belts
and buttons are not advised since they can cause discomfort especially
when stretching.
Upon agreement for a session, you will be required
to fill out a general health/agreement form. This not ensures
that you are aware of all the procedures, but it also ensures that
you, the client, do not have any health problems that may hinder
you from receiving a massage. On the other hand, you may have
a condition which massage can help to alleviate. Of course,
any serious, life-threatening conditions will require the written
consent of your doctor before massage can be performed.
